The Kloepfer Family Foundation, Inc. Scholars Program was founded by Richard Kloepfer, a retired businessman from Greenwood, Indiana. Mr. Kloepfer envisioned an initiative that would help students in Leslie County overcome barriers to obtaining a college education. "It is of the utmost importance that students begin thinking about their future careers at an early age. The Kloepfer Family Scholarship enables fifth graders to begin seriously considering a career path without having to be concerned about the costs of an undergraduate degree". Kloepfer partnered with Eastern Kentucky native Steven L. Jones to transform his idea into a reality. Kloepfer and Jones collaborated to develop the Scholars Program, including applicant eligibility requirements, selection protocol and award components. A Board of Directors was seated and the program officially rolled out in 2011. The Kloepfer Family Foundation awarded its first scholarship to W.B. Muncy student Dylan Caldwell in 2012. Since then, six additional scholars have been selected. Noah Baker of Mountain View Elementary and Madison Wilson of Stinnett were the Kloepfer Family Foundation scholarship recipients for 2013. New additions since then are McKenzie Bellin 2014, Adrieonia Nicole France in 2015, and then Thomas Saylor in 2016 - all from Stinnett and Robert Warrener Kilburn from Muncy Elementary in 2017. During the summer of 2014 the Kloepfer Family Foundation extended the summer program opportunity to Hayes Lewis Elementary and W.B. Muncy Elementary. These after-school programs focused on test preparation and homework assistance/read. After-school participants who participated in these programs were offered cultural enrichment field trip opportunities to visit Mammoth Cave, Kentucky Kingdom and the Newport Aquarium.
The after-school program was phased out at the end of the summer of 2015.
Current Kloepfer Scholars have been afforded the opportunity to participate in cultural/education enrichment trips to Washington, D.C. and Boston, Massachusetts.
